Bret Harte is 0-10 against Calaveras since April of 2022 but things could change on Thursday. The Bullfrogs will face off against the Red Hawks at 4:00 p.m. One thing working in Bret Harte's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three games.
On Tuesday, Bret Harte made easy work of Riverbank and carried off an 11-5 victory. The win continues a trend for the Bullfrogs in their matchups with the Bruins: they've now won three in a row.
Madison Kane was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Kane was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Rylee Banks was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Mariah Colwell, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Calaveras fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Linden on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 4-3. The Red Hawks haven't had much luck with the Lions recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Kamryn Thornburg spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.
Calaveras' loss dropped their record down to 14-7-1. As for Bret Harte, their record now sits at 8-10.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bret Harte has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Calaveras struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 12.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Bret Harte suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Calaveras when the teams last played back in April. Can the Bullfrogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
