Basketball Game Preview: Dekaney Wildcats vs. Nimitz Cougars

Dekaney hasn't had much luck against Nimitz recently, but that could start to change on Friday. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Dekaney Wildcats take on the Nimitz Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Dekaney will bounce into Friday's game after beating MacArthur, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Dekaney came out on top against MacArthur by a score of 33-26 on Tuesday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Dekaney's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Demya Robinson, who posted ten points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Those ten points gave Robinson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kimora Scranton, who put up four points and five assists.

Dekaney was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Nimitz hadn't done well against Spring recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Nimitz walked away with a 57-50 victory over Spring. The score was all tied up 28-28 at the break, but the Cougars were the better team in the second half.

Nimitz's win came from a few key players Dekaney will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Tatiyana Cole, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Chloe Williams, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 16 points.

Nimitz is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points per game. As for Dekaney, their win bumped their record up to 4-13.

Dekaney was dealt a bruising 71-8 defeat at the hands of Nimitz in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Can Dekaney avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
