The Gateway Olympians will challenge the Overland Trailblazers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gateway has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Gateway lost 14-6 to Skyview on Tuesday. The Olympians have struggled against the Wolverines recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.

Mervin Loya and Christopher De La Torre did some serious damage despite the final result: Loya scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3, while De La Torre went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Loya has become a key player for Gateway: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-3 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Overland was not the first on the board on Tuesday, but they got there more often. They blew past Aurora Central 14-4. The Trailblazers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by ten runs or more this season.
Humberto Perez was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Perez was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Ruben Luna was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while going 3-for-3. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Chavez, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three RBI.
Overland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
The victory made it two in a row for Overland and bumps their season record up to 4-5. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Gateway, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gateway hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .377. However, it's not like Overland struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gateway skirted past Overland 4-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Will the Olympians repeat their success, or do the Trailblazers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
