The Casteel Colts will head out on the road to take on the Corona del Sol Aztecs at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Casteel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Casteel is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Hamilton 9-7. Surprisingly, this marked the Colts' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Connor Russell was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Dodd, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Corona del Sol faced O'Connor in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Aztecs blew past the Eagles 13-5. The Aztecs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matches by six runs or more this season.
Corona del Sol also got a great performance from Brett Crossland as he struck out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Crossland has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Conor Rae was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Connor Long was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Corona del Sol always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as O'Connor only posted an OBP of .378.
Corona del Sol's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Casteel, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-9 record this season.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Casteel hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .338. However, it's not like Corona del Sol struggles in that department as they've averaged .344. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Casteel took their win against Corona del Sol when the teams last played back in February by a conclusive 8-2 score. Will the Colts repeat their success, or do the Aztecs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
