The Rio Mesa Spartans will head out to face off against the St. Bonaventure Seraphs at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Rio Mesa is headed out to face St. Bonaventure after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. Everything went the Spartans' way against Santa Paula on Tuesday as they made off with an 11-2 win. The Spartans not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 21, 2025 (when they won 13-2).
Taylor Gallegos and Analia Lopez made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Gallegos pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Lopez tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Gallegos went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Lopez went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI Lopez has posted since back in March of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Roman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2025. Jaslene Rios was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs.
Rio Mesa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santa Paula only posted an OBP of .080.
Meanwhile, St. Bonaventure put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Hueneme as they made off with a 15-1 victory. The Seraphs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
St. Bonaventure let Khloe Qualls and Mercedes Navarro run wild. Qualls went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles, while Navarro went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaydin Conner, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Rio Mesa skirted past St. Bonaventure 8-6 in their previous matchup back in February of 2025. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Seraphs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
