Silverdale Academy has gone 7-1 against South Pittsburg recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Seahawks will be playing at home against the Pirates at 3:30 p.m. Silverdale Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so South Pittsburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Silverdale Academy is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Gordon Lee just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Monday. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 4-3.
Jonah Winton was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
South Pittsburg not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 24th. They were the clear victors by a 9-1 margin over Van Buren County. The win continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won seven in a row.
Alex Phillips spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 14 Ks. South Pittsburg is 2-1 when Phillips allows three or fewer hits, but 5-13 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jace Stone, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Kaden Baker was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
South Pittsburg's victory bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Silverdale Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.
Silverdale Academy's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's match. The Seahawks have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for South Pittsburg, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Silverdale Academy continue to outrun the ball?
