Baseball Recap: Desert View Now 7-1 over Last Eight Games

Desert View hadn't done well against Flowing Wells recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Jaguars put the hurt on the Caballeros with a sharp 10-2 win. Considering the Jaguars have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Cristobal Lorta and Orlando Pinedo made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Lorta pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Pinedo tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Lorta went 1-for-5 with one home run and three RBI, while Pinedo scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Yadier Acu?a, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jorge Zazueta, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-5.

Desert View was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .424 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Desert View is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Flowing Wells, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 13 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-12-1 record this season.

Desert View will take on Nogales at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Flowing Wells, they will face off against Cienega at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Caballeros' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bobcats have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
