After flying high against the Valley Head Tigers on January 9th, the Oakwood Academy Mustangs came back down to earth. Oakwood Academy lost to Woodville on the road by a decisive 78-59 margin on Tuesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the defeat, Oakwood Academy had strong showings from Nathan Nesbitt, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds, and Jaiden Morton, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Will Lewis, who scored eight points.
Oakwood Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Woodville, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-5.
Oakwood Academy on the road again on Thursday and play against Hazelwood Central at 5:30 p.m. on January 25th. Hazelwood Central presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Oakwood Academy in their respective states (Hazelwood Central is ranked 71st in Missouri, while Oakwood Academy is ranked 236th in Alabama). As for Woodville, they will be playing at home against Athens Bible at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Athens Bible has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 334 points over their last five matches.
