Having struggled with five defeats in a row, Stony Point finally turned things around against Manor on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 21-18 victory over the Mustangs.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Stony Point to victory, but perhaps none more so than Andrew Gomez, who picked up 126 receiving yards and a touchdown. Gomez showed off some serious burst, lighting up the secondary with a catch for 60 yards. Stony Point also got a significant boost from Andrew Hill, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 92 yards.
Stony Point's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB six times. The heavy lifting was done by Jordan Garcia and Tristan Butler, who racked up four sacks between them. Butler is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made seven or more in the last seven games he's played dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Hutto lost to Round Rock on the road by a 29-14 margin on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Hippos can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 340th, while the Dragons are ranked 81st).
Despite the loss, Hutto got top-tier performance from Keilan Chavies, who rushed for 101 yards, and also picked up 43 receiving yards and a touchdown.
