The Argo Argonauts will face off against the Bremen Braves at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Argo's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Bremen's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Argo's offense. They fell just short of Lemont by a score of 2-0 on Wednesday. The Argonauts haven't had much luck with the Lemont HS recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bremen). They were the clear victors by a 27-9 margin over Hillcrest on Wednesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Braves needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Emma Oganovich was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. Oganovich was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Elizabeth Ballay was incredible, firing off one home run, three triples, and five runs while going 4-for-5. That's the most triples she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Layla Gonzalez, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Bremen hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in nine consecutive matches.
Argo's loss dropped their record down to 17-6. As for Bremen, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-14 record.
Argo came out on top in a nail-biter against Bremen in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 5-3. Do the Argonauts have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Braves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
