Basketball Recap: First Academy Takes a Loss

On Friday, the First Academy Eagles had to suffer through a 53-18 loss at the hands of the Merritt Island Christian Cougars.

Despite the loss, First Academy had strong showings from Emma Brashear, who posted five points, and Marissa Hiatt, who scored six points.

Merritt Island Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Julia Rhodes led the charge by dropping a double-double on 19 points and 14 rebounds. Those 14 boards gave Rhodes a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Summer Snaith, who went 6 for 10 on her way to 13 points along with six rebounds and four steals.

First Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-5 record this season. As for Merritt Island Christian, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-9.

First Academy has already played their next match, a 41-19 defeat against Harvest Community on the 18th. As for Merritt Island Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 52-39 win against St. Edward's on the 18th.
