The Bovina Mustangs had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They pulled ahead with a 35-34 photo finish over Groom.
Miguel Lopez was his usual excellent self, scoring 15 points along with five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Angel Lara, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and four steals.
Bovina has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-10 record this season. As for Groom, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
Bovina and McLean will round out the year against one another at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at. Groom will finish 2023 at home by hosting Sanford-Fritch at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
