Evansville Memorial is a perfect 10-0 against Evansville Central since May of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. Brianna Canaan was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and three RBI.
Canaan wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Annie Blackburn, who went 2-for-5 with one stolen base and one run. Mallory Wollenmann was another, going 2-for-5 with one run and one RBI.
Evansville Memorial kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Vincennes Lincoln only managed four hits.
Meanwhile, Evansville Central fell victim to Evansville Reitz and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Panthers, falling 9-0. The Bears have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Evansville Memorial pushed their record up to 11-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Evansville Central, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.
Evansville Central's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Evansville Memorial has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Evansville Central, though, as they've been averaging only 3.3 strikeouts. Will Evansville Memorial keep running through batters, or will the Bears buck the trend?
Evansville Memorial skirted past Evansville Central 7-5 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
