This season hasn't been kind to the Greene County Tigers, who are still winless after their tenth contest. They took a 53-38 bruising from American Christian Academy on Monday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Greene County in their matchups with American Christian Academy: they've now lost four in a row.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Michael Gibson, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Gibson scored 15 or more points. Jhari Barnes was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Even though they lost, Greene County were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. This was only their seventh loss (out of seven games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
American Christian Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Hunter Bates, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds and five steals. That's the first time this season that Bates pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Davis Dare, who scored 13 points along with five assists and five steals.
Greene County bumped their record down to 0-10 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for American Christian Academy, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greene County will face off against Marion at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Marion presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Greene County in Alabama (Marion is ranked 170th, while Greene County is ranked 441st). American Christian Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Sipsey Valley at 7:30 p.m. on December 12th. Sipsey Valley has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
