Two dominant in Ziah Pesqueira and Devon Vigil are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Moffat Cowboys will be playing at home against the Centennial Rams at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Moffat waltzed into their game on Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. Everything went their way against Antonito as Moffat made off with a 56-35 win. The score was close at the half, but Moffat pulled away in the second half with 35 points.
It was another big night for Pesqueira, who scored 19 points along with eight steals and six rebounds. Pesqueira is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Noble Cole, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Centennial scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Lake City Community 92-20 at home. With that victory, Centennial brought their scoring average up to 53.1 points per game.
Vigil was his usual excellent self, scoring 28 points along with eight steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Enrique Molina, who scored 15 points.
Moffat's victory bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Centennial, they pushed their record up to 5-4 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's match: Moffat have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5.1 threes per game. It's a different story for Centennial, though, as they've been averaging only 5.5 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Moffat suffered a grim 61-40 defeat to Centennial in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Moffat avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
