The Warhill Lions will head out to take on the Woodside Wolverines at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Warhill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.2 runs per game this season.
It was a proper cat-fight when Warhill duked it out with Bruton on Friday. The Lions blew past the Panthers 19-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lions.
Ella White and Kaci Wagner were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, White struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Wagner pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. White has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. At bat, White went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Wagner went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI White has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Keamani Fujimoto was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. Payton Auerbach - GMU was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Warhill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .649. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bruton only posted an OBP of .304.
Meanwhile, Woodside was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They came up short against Denbigh, falling 22-7.
Lacey Allen made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Jaena Antonia Kay also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Warhill's record now sits at 10-3. As for Woodside, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
Woodside's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Warhill has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Woodside, though, as they've been averaging 8.9 hits. Given Warhill's sizable advantage in that area, the Wolverines will need to find a way to close that gap.
Warhill took their victory against Woodside in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 25-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
