Frederick is 5-0 against Severance since March of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Frederick Golden Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Severance Silver Knights at 5:00 p.m. One thing working in Frederick's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six contests.
Even though Thompson Valley scored an imposing 66 points on Thursday, Frederick still came out on top. Frederick pulled ahead with a 67-66 photo finish over Thompson Valley.
Frederick's success was spearheaded by the efforts of JJ Strojinc, who scored 25 points, and Jovan Aldana, who scored 19 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Aldana has scored all season. Zach Burton was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Severance can now show off five landslide victories after their most recent game on Thursday. They breezed by Roosevelt at home to the tune of 65-30. Winning may never get old, but Severance sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Brady Varney was his usual excellent self, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds and four blocks. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Varney, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Frederick's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-6. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 78.3 points per game. As for Severance, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
Saturday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Frederick have been dynamite from deep this season, having drained 41.2% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Severance struggles in that department as they've nailed 41.2% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Frederick was able to grind out a solid win over Severance when the teams last played back in February of 2023, winning 74-65. Will Frederick repeat their success, or does Severance have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
