The Fremont Firebirds will head out on the road to face off against the Carlmont Scots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Carlmont took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Fremont, who comes in off a win.
Last Friday, Fremont was able to grind out a solid win over Santa Clara, taking the game 31-24. The victory was just what Fremont needed coming off of a 35-15 loss in their prior contest.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fremont to victory, but perhaps none more so than Henry Buenrostro, who rushed for 56 yards and two touchdowns. Fremont also got a significant boost from Jordan Mckinney, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 120 yards.
Meanwhile, Carlmont suffered a tough 48-28 defeat at the hands of Woodside on Friday. Carlmont was down 48-20 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Despite the defeat, Carlmont got a solid performance out of Braeden Kumer, who rushed for 201 yards and a touchdown while picking up 10.1 yards per carry. Kumer hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for four straight games.
Fremont's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Carlmont, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-6.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Fremont has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 223 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Carlmont struggles in that department as they've been even better at 226.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
