Basketball Game Preview: Bentworth Bearcats vs. Jeannette Jayhawks

Bentworth hasn't had much luck against Jeannette recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Bentworth Bearcats will be home for the holidays to greet the Jeannette Jayhawks at 7:30 p.m.

Last Friday, Bentworth came up short against Riverview and fell 56-47. The Bearcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Bentworth had strong showings from Ben Hays, who posted 21 points and four steals, and Christopher Harper, who put up nine points and six steals. The dominant performance gave Harper a new career-high in steals.

Even though they lost, Bentworth was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Jeannette put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 76-43 win over California. Fans of the Jayhawks have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Jeannette found their leader in sophomore Jayce Powell, who went 10 of 19 on his way to 22 points and five steals. Powell is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kymone Brown, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten assists.

Jeannette pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.0 points per game. As for Bentworth, they now have a losing record at 2-3.

Bentworth was dealt a bruising 76-30 loss at the hands of Jeannette when the teams last played back in January of 2020. Can Bentworth avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
