Plainview is 0-4 against Coronado since March of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will square off against the Mustangs at 6:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Having struggled with eight losses in a row, Plainview turned things around against Palo Duro on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Dons with a sharp 12-2 win. The Bulldogs not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since February 26th (when they won 13-3).
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Coronado). They blew past Palo Duro 22-8 on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Dons: they've now won six in a row.
Lexi Jones made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Coronado got a massive performance out of Arianna Gutierrez, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Gutierrez has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Abbie Madrid, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, one double, and one RBI.
Coronado kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
Plainview's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 3-15. As for Coronado, the victory was their first on the road, bumping their record up to 5-16.
Plainview suffered a grim 13-3 defeat to Coronado in their previous meeting back in March of 2025. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
