St. Peter and St. John the Baptist are an even 3-3 against one another since September of 2022, but not for long. The Eagles will look to defend their home field on Saturday against the Cougars at 12:30 p.m.
St. Peter's is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Holy Trinity just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Titans by a score of 20-17. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Eagles came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Titans are ranked 141st).
Although St. Peter's took the loss, they still got scores from Matt Thompson and Anthony D'Acunto.

St. Peter's didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Josiah Jones and Chase Navarro. Navarro has become a key player for St. Peter's: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least one interception, but 1-3 otherwise.
Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed 11 in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Thompson, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, St. John the Baptist had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 41.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Sunday. They came within a single point of losing the streak, but they secured a 27-26 W against the Rams.
St. John the Baptist's win came from a few key players St. Peter's will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Maurice Scott, who threw for 194 yards and two touchdowns on only 18 passes, and also rushed for 52 yards and one TD. That's the most passing yards he has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Kalen Percer-Hogue, who rushed for 84 yards and one score.
St. John the Baptist's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Percer-Hogue, Christopher Trinca, and Dominick Witt, who each picked up one sack apiece.
St. John the Baptist's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for St. Peter's, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
St. Peter's was able to grind out a solid win over St. John the Baptist in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, winning 49-36. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Cougars' Maxwell Bowers, who threw for 209 yards and one TD, and also rushed for 52 yards and one touchdown. Now that he won't be playing on Saturday, will it be easier for the Eagles to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
