The Mater Brighton Lakes Academy Broncos's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Davenport Broncos at 6:30 p.m. on January 18th. Mater Brighton Lakes Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last nine games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Mater Brighton Lakes Academy suffered their biggest loss since December 2, 2023 on Tuesday. They were dealt a 64-13 defeat at the hands of Haines City. While losing is never fun, Mater Brighton Lakes Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 631st, while Haines City is ranked 69th).
Even though Davenport has not done well against Lake Wales recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Davenport secured a 48-42 W over Lake Wales. The victory was just what Davenport needed coming off of a 74-43 loss in their prior contest.
Sorayah Emilien was her usual excellent self, scoring 22 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Davenport's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Destiny Kim, who scored ten points.
Mater Brighton Lakes Academy bumped their record down to 1-11 with that defeat, which was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.2 points per game. As for Davenport, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
