San Marino hasn't had much luck against La Canada recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Titans are taking a road trip to take on the Spartans at 3:30 p.m. San Marino is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
San Marino made up a huge gap compared to their last game against South Pasadena, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Titans fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 7-5 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Titans have suffered since March 4th.
Kayla Giddings made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Mata, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, La Canada hadn't done well against Temple City recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Rams. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Bentley Lebrecque was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Lebrecque was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, La Canada got a big performance out of Laila Kazazian, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Kazazian a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ava Perry, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
La Canada kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.
La Canada is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-6-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for San Marino, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. San Marino hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like La Canada struggles in that department as they've averaged .345. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
San Marino might still be hurting after the 7-0 defeat they got from La Canada when the teams last played last Wednesday. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
