South Anchorage is a perfect 10-0 against Colony since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Wolverines will look to defend their home field against the Knights at 5:15 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (South Anchorage has four straight wins, Colony has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
South Anchorage is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Bettye Davis East Anchorage with a sharp 18-4 victory on Monday. Considering the Wolverines have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Jack Zuspan looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, South Anchorage got a massive performance out of Evan Baldwin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those three hits gave Baldwin a new career-high. Landon Drumm was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
South Anchorage always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Colony faced Wasilla in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Knights fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 9-8. That's two games in a row now that the Knights have lost by just one run.
Cody Otto stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 3-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Sherman, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
South Anchorage pushed their record up to 19-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Colony, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.
South Anchorage came out on top in a nail-biter against Colony in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
