Briarwood Christian is 0-1 against Benjamin Russell since October of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Briarwood Christian Lions will look to defend their home field against the Benjamin Russell Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Briarwood Christian got themselves on the board against Calera, but Calera never followed suit. They breezed by the Eagles on the road to the tune of 38-0. Given Briarwood Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 62nd, while Calera is ranked 218th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Benjamin Russell had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They blew past Pelham 41-14 at home. The result was nothing new for Benjamin Russell, who have now won four matches by 21 points or more so far this season.
Benjamin Russell's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chris Foster led the charge by rushing for 87 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Foster was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 58 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Malcolm Simmons, who gained 116 total yards and three touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Briarwood Christian to 4-3 and Benjamin Russell to 5-2.
Briarwood Christian couldn't quite finish off Benjamin Russell when the teams last played back in October of 2022 and fell 16-14. Will Briarwood Christian have more luck at home instead of on the road?
