The Chilton County Tigers came tearing into Saturday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Calera 63-44. Given Chilton County's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while Calera is ranked 296th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Iasia Anderson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a triple-double on 16 points, 12 assists, and nine steals. Anderson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ivyonna Varner, who scored 17 points along with eight steals and five rebounds.
Chilton County is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. As for Calera, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-19 record this season.
Chilton County will be playing in front of their home fans against Marbury at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Marbury focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Thursday. As for Calera, they will head out on the road to challenge Benjamin Russell at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
