The Mansfield Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Skyline Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mansfield is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.
Mansfield suffered their biggest loss yet this season last Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 74-33 loss at the hands of Duncanville. While losing is never fun, Mansfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 474th, while Duncanville is ranked first).
Meanwhile, the matchup between Skyline and Duncanville on Friday hardly resembled the 2-0 effort from their previous meeting. Skyline was outmatched by Duncanville on the road and fell 84-41. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Skyline has suffered against Duncanville since November 29, 2016.
Despite their loss, Skyline saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Naiya Carney, who scored 13 points along with two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Carney has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ke'liyah L anderson, who scored eight points.
Mansfield has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-14 record this season. As for Skyline, they now have a losing record at 13-14.
Mansfield was dealt a bruising 58-26 defeat at the hands of Skyline in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Mansfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
