Greenwood has gone a perfect 6-0 against Van Buren recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Pointers at 7:00 p.m. Greenwood knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past seven contests -- so hopefully Van Buren likes a good challenge.
If Greenwood beats Van Buren with 42 points on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Bulldogs claimed a resounding 42-10 win over Lake Hamilton. With the Bulldogs ahead 35-3 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

Kane Archer continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 345 yards and five TDs while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushing for 31 yards. That's the most passing touchdowns he has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cooper Bland, who picked up 109 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Van Buren had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top against the Mavericks by a score of 17-10. The 17-point effort marked the Pointers' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
The critical scores for Van Buren came from Tristan Ray and Darren Mays.
Van Buren's run defense was locked in: Southside could only muster 3.3 yards per carry. While two picked up at least 12 total tackles, Mays stood above the rest. He made 12 total tackles (1.0 for loss) and snagged an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. Van Buren's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.63 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 4.8 on average over their last three games.
Van Buren didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Ray, Mays, and Talen Jones picked up one apiece. Mays is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made ten or more in each of the last four games he's played. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Van Buren's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Greenwood, their win bumped their record up to 7-0.
The upcoming game will be a clash of competing strengths. Greenwood has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 193.6 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, Van Buren has preferred to attack from the air: they average 266.6 passing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
Everything came up roses for Greenwood against Van Buren when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 63-14 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Pointers' Cameron Keller, who rushed for 136 yards and one score. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Bulldogs to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
