The Nixon Mustangs pushed their score all the way to 60 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 81-60 walloping at the hands of Vela. Nixon was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Vela apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
When it comes to explaining why Nixon lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jose Escobar. Despite the final result, he scored 15 points. Mason Vela was another key contributor, scoring 9 points.
Nixon bumped their record down to 8-4 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.5 points per game. As for Vela, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Nixon will square off against Cole at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Vela will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Sharyland at 7:30 p.m. on December 12th.
