Softball Recap: Bret Harte Makes It Three in a Row at Home

Bret Harte won against Riverbank last Tuesday with nine runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Bullfrogs came out on top against the Summerville Bears by a score of 9-4. This was a revenge game for the Bullfrogs: when they faced off against the Bears last Friday, they had to take a 3-2 loss.

Madison Kane was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Those two runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Bret Harte let Rylee Banks and Mariah Colwell run wild. Banks scored three runs while going 4-for-4, while Colwell scored two runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4. Those four hits gave Banks a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of A Darby, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Bret Harte was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Bret Harte pushed their record up to 5-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Summerville, Riverbank, and Big Valley Christian. As for the Bears, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bret Harte will face off against Riverbank at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bullfrogs are facing the Bruins at the right time seeing as the Bruins are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Summerville, they will challenge Big Valley Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lions have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
