The Marine City Mariners will be home for the holidays to greet the Port Huron Red Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Marine City is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home dating back to last season.
Even though Marine City has not done well against Madison recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Marine City came out on top in a nail-biter against Madison and snuck past 47-44. The win was just what Marine City needed coming off of a 60-40 defeat in their prior contest.
Marine City's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Liam Adams, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Danny VandeVyver, who scored 21 points. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Hand, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Port Huron's four-game losing streak dating back to last season came to an end on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 66-46 margin over Marysville. Port Huron's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Marine City's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Port Huron, their win bumped their record up to 1-3.
Marine City took a serious blow against Port Huron in their previous matchup back in February, falling 70-27. Can Marine City avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
