Basketball Recap: Chase Messinger Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Eastern Lebanon County

Lampeter-Strasburg won the last time they faced Eastern Lebanon County and things went their way on Thursday too. The Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers snuck past the Eastern Lebanon County Raiders with a 53-49 win. Given the Pioneers' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 195th, while the Raiders are ranked 427th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lampeter-Strasburg got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Chase Messinger out in front who went 7 of 10 en route to 18 points and three steals. Those 18 points gave Messinger a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chase Smucker, who posted 15 points.

Lampeter-Strasburg has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points per game. As for Eastern Lebanon County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.

Lampeter-Strasburg has already played their next contest (against Dallastown), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Eastern Lebanon County will challenge Cocalico at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
