The Chester Yellowjackets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 51-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Red Bud. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Chester in their matchups with Red Bud: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Chester saw an underclassman step up: Lexie Mott scored 16 points along with five rebounds.
It was another big night for Lyla Hess, who scored 18 points along with two steals for Red Bud. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hess has scored at least a third of Red Bud's points. Addi Dilley was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds.
Chester has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-15 record this season. As for Red Bud, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 20-7.
Chester will head out on the road to take on DuQuoin at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Chester is coming into the contest with seven straight defeats on the road, meaning DuQuoin will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory. As for Red Bud, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against New Athens at 6:00 p.m. New Athens will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 674th, while Red Bud is ranked 239th).
