The Kathleen Red Devils and the St. Cloud Bulldogs squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Kathleen Red Devils had to settle for second. They fell 53-40 to the Bulldogs. Kathleen found out winning isn't easy when you make five fewer threes than your opponent.
Despite the loss, Kathleen still got an impressive performance from Amaya Shaw, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Shaw is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Dariasia Pitts was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.
St. Cloud was led to victory by Emily Lockey and Danigzy Mantilla. Lockey dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Mantilla scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. Lockey hasn't dropped below 16 points for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Haley Collins, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Kathleen's loss dropped their record down to 18-8. As for St. Cloud, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 21-6.
Kathleen will take on Wekiva at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Florida (Kathleen is ranked 95th, while Wekiva is ranked 116th). St. Cloud will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against New Smyrna Beach at 7:00 p.m. on February 14th. New Smyrna Beach will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something St. Cloud surely won't give up without a fight.
