Naples Classical extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-7. They came up short against the Donahue Catholic Shamrocks, falling 28-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Shamrocks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 21-1 on March 5th.
Naples Classical saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Micheal Bowden, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
As for Donahue Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 3-4. The game marked their most dominant victory of the season.
On Donahue Catholic's side, Nick Bauer was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Bauer was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isaac Loboda, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs, four RBI, and one triple. Donahue Catholic is undefeated when Loboda posts two or more runs, but 0-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Esposito, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Coming up, Naples Classical will head out on the road to take on The Village School of Naples at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Donahue Catholic, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Everglades City at 6:00 p.m. The Gators have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.5 runs per game on average), something the Shamrocks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
