Seton Catholic is a perfect 4-0 against Dobson since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Seton Catholic Sentinels will be taking part in a tournament against the Dobson Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Seton Catholic had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They skirted past ALA - Gilbert North 10-8. The Sentinels haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Drew Campagna looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tialoc Del Rosario, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chase Ries, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.
After ending last season with three straight defeats, Dobson opened this season with a bang. They blew past Apache Junction 19-3 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Mustangs have posted since February 24, 2024.
Santiago Hinostroza was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Brenston Velasquez was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Aaron Mutascio was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3.
Dobson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .683. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Apache Junction only posted an OBP of .500.
Seton Catholic took their victory against Dobson when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a conclusive 21-6. Will Seton Catholic repeat their success, or does Dobson have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
