Wagner hasn't had much luck against Veterans Memorial recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wagner Thunderbirds will challenge the Veterans Memorial Patriots at 7:00 p.m. Wagner has given up an average of 10.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Wagner is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They lost 20-4 to Tivy. That's two games in a row now that the Thunderbirds have lost by exactly 16 runs.

Aracely Quiroz and Zephyrlael Price did some serious damage despite the final result: Quiroz scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1, while Price scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Price is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Addyson Ware, who scored two runs and stole a base.
Meanwhile, Veterans Memorial's undefeated season came to an end after nine games on Tuesday. They took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of New Braunfels. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Patriots, who until this contest were averaging 2.4 runs allowed.
Alaina Peper made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one triple. Melanie Gonzalez also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Even though they lost, Veterans Memorial hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive games.
Having lost for the first time this season, Veterans Memorial fell to 9-1. As for Wagner, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wagner has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. However, it's not like Veterans Memorial struggles in that department as they've averaged .444. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wagner might still be hurting after the 8-2 loss they got from Veterans Memorial in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Wagner avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
