V.R. Eaton is on a four-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Southlake Carroll is on a seven-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The V.R. Eaton Eagles will take on the Southlake Carroll Dragons at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. V.R. Eaton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 171st, while Southlake Carroll is ranked fifth).
Last Friday, V.R. Eaton was the victim of a tough 52-27 defeat at the hands of Timber Creek.
Despite the defeat, V.R. Eaton saw an underclassman step up: Christopher Duharte gained 127 total yards and three touchdowns. Duharte is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the matchup if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Southlake Carroll's strategy against Keller Central on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Southlake Carroll blew Keller Central out of the water with a 70-7 final score. Fans of Southlake Carroll have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Southlake Carroll can attribute much of their success to Graham Knowles, who threw for 285 yards and four touchdowns while completing 94.1% of his passes, and Riley Wormley, who rushed for 106 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries. Another player making a difference was Angelo Renda, who rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown.
Southlake Carroll's victory bumped their season record to 7-0 while V.R. Eaton's loss dropped theirs to 4-3.
V.R. Eaton was taken down by Southlake Carroll 42-7 in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Thankfully for V.R. Eaton, Owen Allen (who rushed for 162 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
