Valiant Cross Academy managed a 54-48 win over Macon-East Montgomery Academy on Thursday. Given Valiant Cross Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while Macon-East Montgomery Academy is ranked 322nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Valiant Cross Academy found their leader in underclassman Deshawn Hall, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 16 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Hall has scored at least a third of Valiant Cross Academy's points. Another player making a difference was John Cosby, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Valiant Cross Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season. As for Macon-East Montgomery Academy, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-15.
Valiant Cross Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Macon-East Montgomery Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Springwood at 12:00 p.m. on January 26th. Springwood knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matchups -- so hopefully Macon-East Montgomery Academy likes a good challenge.
