Norwood had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 20-18 win over the Hayden Tigers on Friday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Mavericks also won the last time the pair played back in August of 2024.
Brycen Rummel threw for 115 yards on nine of 18 attempts. Cole Bray was his top target, picking up 50 receiving yards. On the ground, Owen Tackett rushed for 135 yards and one score.
Despite the loss, Hayden had strong showings from Peyton Johnson, who rushed for 158 yards and one touchdown while picking up 9.3 yards per carry, and Carson Campbell, who gained 101 total yards. Johnson also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making seven total tackles and defending one pass.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Norwood will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Vail Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
