If the MaxPreps state rankings hold true, the near future looks bright for Johnston. On Friday they take on Des Moines East at 7:00 PM. If the contest is anything like the 35-49 finish from the last time they met, the scorekeeper will be kept real busy.
After having lost a blowout to Dowling Catholic in their previous game, Johnston were happy to find some success last week. Johnston steamrollered Muscatine 42-7. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-7.
Meanwhile, if Des Moines East were riding high off their 27-0 takedown of Roosevelt two weeks ago, that ride came to an abrupt end. Des Moines East lost to Southeast Polk by a decisive 25-40 margin.
Johnston's victory lifted them to 3-1 while Des Moines East's loss dropped them down to 2-2. In their victory, Johnston relied heavily on junior Jordan Rusch, who rushed for 89 yards and 2 touchdowns. Des Moines East will need to find a way to minimize his impact if they want to win.
