3A Southern recap October 22, 2013
Sierra's William Nelson recorded the longest rushing play in 3A Southern this season in his game against The Classical Academy last week. Nelson scampered for 82 yards on the play and finished with 111 on the day as his team lost to the Titans.
The Classical Academy took down Sierra 41-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jantzen Ryals threw for 111 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 72 yards during the win.
Michael Ranson provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Pueblo Central beat Harrison. He completed 11 passes for 195 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 60 yards. Ranson's favorite target this week was Nikko Valdez, who caught 6 passes for 148 yards.
Gary Lucero was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Wildcats defeated the Panthers. He forced 1 fumble and recorded 1 fumble.
Ryals put up the best numbers in passing as David Bervig's team beat Dean Huffman's team. Ryals' favorite target this week was Jake Frankmore, who caught 4 passes for 52 yards.
Pueblo Central's Ranson and Valdez led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Ranson has thrown for 1,067 yards this season, while Valdez has 51 catches for 715 yards. Harrison's ANDREW JOHNSON leads the league in rushing yards with 709.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Pueblo County takes on the Titans. The Hornets are in third place, while The Classical Academy is in first place.
The Titans led 3A Southern in scoring this week by notching 41 points on the Stallions. Ryals ran for 72 yards in the win.
