Luke Mollohan and Dawson Kamppi were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Mollohan pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Kamppi tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Mollohan also tossed no walks, which is notable because Liberty Christian Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-4 otherwise. At the plate, Mollohan got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Kamppi got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Kamppi a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Logan Dyer, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base was his first of the season. Drew Fye was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Liberty Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Madison Christian only posted an OBP of .214.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Saturday as neither Granville Christian Academy nor Tree of Life Christian made it on the board until the tenth inning. Granville Christian Academy fell just short of Tree of Life Christian by a score of 6-5. Granville Christian Academy's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Bentley Johnson put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.
In other batting news, Jordan Stump was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Josiah Green, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Liberty Christian Academy pushed their record up to 4-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Granville Christian Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Liberty Christian Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Granville Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Liberty Christian Academy might still be hurting after the 12-1 loss they got from Granville Christian Academy when the teams last played back in April. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
