Shelley hasn't had much luck against Bonneville recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Shelley will square off against Bonneville at 3:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Shelley will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run last Saturday, then bounced right back against Bear Lake on Thursday. Shelley was the clear victor by a 21-4 margin over Bear Lake. The Russets have beaten the Bears the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bears has come to flipping the script.
Jaxon Crandle looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Shelley got a massive performance out of Alex Beck, who went 3-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Teagan Luras, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
Shelley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bear Lake only posted an OBP of .375.
Meanwhile, Bonneville had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They came out on top against the Wolves by a score of 7-2.
Crew Scott looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Taye Lords was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Tyson Christensen also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Shelley now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Bonneville, their record is now 5-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Shelley has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Bonneville struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Shelley might still be hurting after the 14-2 defeat they got from Bonneville in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Shelley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
