The Destin Sharks will be playing in front of their home fans against the Laurel Hill Hoboes at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Monday, Destin came up short against Pensacola Catholic and fell 53-44.
Meanwhile, Laurel Hill was just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 51-50 to Baker.
Despite the defeat, Laurel Hill saw an underclassman step up: Aiyana Dixon scored 31 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dixon has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Laramie Boykin, who scored nine points.
Destin's loss was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-12. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.7 points per game. As for Laurel Hill, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.
Destin might still be hurting after the 58-37 loss they got from Laurel Hill in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Dixon, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. Now that Destin knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
