Cibola hasn't had much luck against Eldorado recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cibola Cougars are taking a road trip to take on the Eldorado Golden Eagles at 3:30 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Eldorado will be up against a hot Cibola team: the squad just extended their winning streak to four. Cibola was the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over West Mesa on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Cougars have posted against the Mustangs since March 21, 2019.
Cibola let Jacob Segotta and Daniel Kean run wild. Segotta went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Kean went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That triple marked the first that Segotta hit this season. Derrick Chee was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Cibola hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, while Eldorado put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Albuquerque. Eldorado put the hurt on Albuquerque with a sharp 11-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Golden Eagles in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won eight in a row.
Eldorado got a massive performance out of Jace Sanchez-Reynolds, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Cirillio Martinez, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Cibola's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.8 runs. As for Eldorado, their record now sits at 5-2.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Cibola hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .393. However, it's not like Eldorado struggles in that department as they've averaged .377. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cibola was able to grind out a solid victory over Eldorado in their previous meeting on Saturday, winning 13-8. Does Cibola have another victory up their sleeve, or will Eldorado turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
