Northwestern has been on the road for three straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Iroquois Braves at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Northwestern suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They had to suffer through a rough 78-21 loss at the hands of Girard. While losing is never fun, Northwestern can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 708th, while Girard is ranked 65th).
Even though Iroquois has not done well against Mercyhurst Prep recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Iroquois escaped with a win against Mercyhurst Prep by the margin of a single free throw, 53-52. The victory was just what Iroquois needed coming off of a 56-33 defeat in their prior game.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Iroquois to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kellen Burroughs, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and three blocks. Burroughs also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Roman Caporale was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.
Northwestern bumped their record down to 0-11 with that loss, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Iroquois, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.
Northwestern strolled past Iroquois in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a score of 81-67. Does Northwestern have another victory up their sleeve, or will Iroquois turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
