Football Recap: Gooding Piles Up the Points Against Wood River

Gooding won the last time they faced Wood River and things went their way on Friday too. The Senators simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Wolverines 41-7. The result was nothing new for the Senators, who have now won three contests by 34 points or more so far this season.

Gooding found their leader in sophomore Ezra Gillette, who rushed for 129 yards and two TDs on only five carries, and also caught one touchdown. Those 129 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Gillette. Rio Curtis was another key player, rushing for 81 yards and one score.

Gooding didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Cougar Stockham, Eli Esterbrook, and Bridger Pope picked up one apiece.

Gooding has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.2 points over those games. As for Wood River, they dropped their record down to 1-6 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.

Coming up, Gooding will head out to challenge Kimberly at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Stockham and MacRaye Bruning. As for Wood River, they will welcome Jerome at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
