St. Charles East and Wheaton North are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Fighting Saints will take on the Falcons at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The last four games St. Charles East has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Saturday, St. Charles East didn't have quite enough to beat Libertyville and fell 6-4. That's two games in a row now that the Fighting Saints have lost by exactly two runs.
Kyli Dunn was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Addison Wolf made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Hayden Sujack also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Wheaton North ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Barrington. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Falcons.
Hannah Wulf made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over nine innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits (and not a single walk). Wulf was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reagan Crosthwaite, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run and two runs. Bre Elmer was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
Wheaton North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
St. Charles East dropped their record down to 9-7 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Wheaton North, their record now sits at 11-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. St. Charles East hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Wheaton North struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.8 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
St. Charles East came up short against Wheaton North when the teams last played back in May of 2024, falling 6-3. Can the Fighting Saints avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
