Softball Recap: Beckville Beats Waskom for Their Sixth Straight Win

Beckville won the last time they faced Waskom and things went their way on Friday too. Beckville's pitcher stepped up to hand Waskom an 18-0 shutout. The Bearcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by eight runs or more this season.

Emily Grandgeorge made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Gracey Struwe was a standout: she scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Landrie Dennard was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-3.

Beckville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Waskom only posted an OBP of .154.

The victory (which was Beckville's sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-7-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.7 runs over those games. As for Waskom, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Beckville is set to challenge their familiar foe Elysian Fields at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Beckville's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Elysian Fields has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road. Meanwhile, Waskom will take on rival Overton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
